KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim obtained his new international passport within an hour at the
Immigration Department in Pusat Bandar Damansara yesterday.
His diplomatic passport has become invalid.
I am happy now. I can leave for Germany for my back
treatment. For six years, I did not have my passport. Prime Minister (Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) said Im a free man, he told reporters when
he was wheeled out of a special room at the department yesterday.
He was supposed to have left for Munich, Munich, Germany
yesterday to seek treatment but the trip has been rescheduled to today.
The former deputy prime minister, 57, arrived in a gold
Mercedes Benz at the department at 9.30am accompanied by his wife and Keadilan
president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, party vice-president Azmin Ali
and Youth chief Mohamed Ezam Mohamed Noor, an ambulance and other supporters.
A crowd gathered at the department from 9am when news
that Anwar was going to apply for his passport spread.
When he arrived, the crowd surged forward to greet him.
Anwar was then wheeled to the special room at the second
floor, where he waited an hour to get his new passport valid for five years.
He looked cheerful and even told photographers around
him:
Cukup lah tu, (That is enough), he said, before
being whisked away to a lift at 10.30am.
Azmin said German specialist Dr Thomas Hoogland, who has
apparently done more than 8,000 endoscopic surgeries, was expected to treat
Anwar at the AlphaKlinik in Munich Germany.
He wants to go for the endoscopic surgery as soon as
possible, he said.
Ezam said: He was in a very jovial mood yesterday and
today but he is in severe pain.
